Dragons Den: Small Grants Scheme

A chance to put forward, and vote to support, ideas for community projects in Twerton and Whiteway.

This ‘Small Grants’ scheme is for local individuals, groups and organisations to access money (up to £300) and support to carry out projects that will benefit our communities in Twerton and Whiteway.

How to apply

Put forward your idea or current project by filling in a form and then pitching it to the community at Whiteway Fun Day (August 22nd 2026 at Whiteway Green/Rosewarn Park)

[Don’t worry if you can’t make the event itself or aren’t up for public speaking – you can nominate someone to do it for you!]

The Dragons’ Den Grants are available for individuals or small groups/organisations for projects that will benefit Twerton and Whiteway. Please contact Kate or Sally, the Twerton and Whiteway Community Network Coordinators, on 07398 589680 or hello@twertonandwhiteway.org for any questions about where you’re working.

For groups and organisations, your income in the last financial year must be no higher than £50,000 to be eligible. Priority will be given to new applicants in 2026.

The first step is to complete the application form (online, or download as a word document) explaining your community project idea.

Paper forms can be collected from Kate and Sally via the office at Bath City Farm, or by emailing hello@twertonandwhiteway.org to arrange collection.

You can apply for up to £300 for a project that meets at least one of our criteria:

·        Celebrating Twerton and Whiteway

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway an active place

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway a cleaner place

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway a friendlier place

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway a greener place

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway a healthier place

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway a more accessible place

·        Making Twerton and Whiteway a safer place

If the £300 grant does not cover the full cost of your project, you can look for match funding (money from another source) and tell us about this on the application form.

Please email your application form to hello@twertonandwhiteway.org, deliver/post to the Twerton and Whiteway Community Network at Bath City Farm, Kelston View, BA2 1NW, or complete the form online at https://forms.office.com/r/khw66tYVwv.

After the closing date for the applications on 7th August, our Panel will check that your project meets our criteria, and we may ask for more information if needed.

Up to eight individuals/groups/organisations will be invited to pitch at the Dragons’ Den event at Whiteway Fun Day on 22nd August at Whiteway Green, and we will provide you with guidance to prepare for the event.

This builds on our first Dragons’ Den in Twerton and Whiteway at The Centurion in 2025. There are up to eight grants of £300 available and the decision will be made by the residents at the Whiteway Fun Day event on 22nd August by voting to choose which projects will be funded.

Get ready to inspire, engage and entertain our local community with your pitch!

Our thanks to Knowle West Alliance and Radstock and Westfield Big Local for sharing their learning with us and guiding and supporting us while we’ve been developing our scheme.

How do you get the grant?

We cannot pay any funding into a personal bank account.

For the successful projects, we will provide more information about how to claim your grant when you’re ready.

It could be through production of receipts/invoices or via a bank transfer to a community group/organisation bank account with two signatories.

This could be via a suitable third-party organisation bank account with their permission. If you do not have a suitable bank account or are unable to make purchases up front, we may be able to buy items for your project on your behalf. You must keep all itemised receipts/records of spend. If you are match funding your project, you will need to have this funding in place before we will release the grant.

We look forward to hearing how your project has worked and made a difference in our local communities. This could include videos, photos, feedback from people involved, videos, case studies, written report etc. These may be shared through our social media and newsletter so we will check with you for consent.

Last round of projects

In June 2025, with the money raised at Whiteway Fun Day 2024, plus a £5000 grant from the Cobalt Trust, we asked locals to come forward and pitch ideas for projects to run in their neighbourhoods.

We then ran our first round of ‘Twerton and Whiteway’s Dragons Den’, with community ‘dragons’ George Samios (Head of Twerton Infants) and Emma Williams (Bleed Kit Fundraiser) quizzing the brave candidates, before the audience voted for their favourite ideas.

These were the successful projects:

  • Twerton Flower Show community exhibition/party
  • Tai Chi & Tech sessions
  • Play Equipment for toddlers at Rose Cottage
  • Allotment accessibility improvements e.g. raised beds
  • ‘Twertopia’ Drama Group
  • ‘Sugar Swap’ – healthy snacks for kids
  • Community walk up Pen-y-Fan
  • Books for young people struggling with cost of textbooks

It will be great to see more project ideas being put to residents at Whiteway Fun Day at Rosewarn Park on Saturday 22nd August (just before the raffle draw at the end of Fun Day, at 4 to 4.30pm).
