Bath Artists’ Studios

Bath Artists’ Studios is the largest and most diverse creative workspace in Bath and North East Somerset. With over 50 studios and more than 60 artists under one roof, we provide a vibrant, supportive environment where painters, sculptors, printmakers, illustrators, photographers, ceramicists, and makers can thrive.

A Creative Home for Artists and the Community

Founded in 1997 by painter David Cobley, we began life in a former infant school in Widcombe. Since 2003, we’ve been based at The Old Malthouse, just a short walk from the city centre. Today, our purpose-built studios, teaching spaces, and gallery form a hub for creativity, learning, and community engagement. Read more

A Hub of Creativity and Learning

Bath Artists’ Studios is more than just a place to work—it’s a centre for artistic exchange and education. Many of our resident artists are also experienced educators, leading workshops and courses both onsite and in partnership with schools, universities, and community organisations.

Our Teaching Room hosts a full weekly programme of classes in painting, drawing, sculpture, and professional development. Many artists also teach from their own studios, offering hands-on experiences in working environments. Meanwhile, our public gallery presents a changing programme of exhibitions, talks and events that welcome all.

Community, Collaboration and Impact

As an educational charity, we are committed to supporting artists at all stages of their careers and making art accessible to everyone. Over the past two decades, we’ve built strong partnerships with universities, hospitals, local authorities, and arts and health organisations. These collaborations allow us to deliver outreach projects, artist residencies and exhibitions that extend far beyond our walls.

Off The Record BANES

Off the Record Bath and North East Somerset (OTR) improves the emotional health and wellbeing of young people. We want every young person in Bath and North East Somerset and beyond to be emotionally healthy, confident and empowered in themselves.
We provide a range of free, confidential and independent services for anyone aged 10-25 living, working or studying in BaNES, including counselling, listening support, youth participation, advocacy, social prescribing, support for care leavers and a LGBTQ+ focused youth group.
In 2024 we launched our Listening Services hub session in Twerton, every Thursday evening. We’re working with Youth Connect, and delivering counselling and listening support from the Southside Youth Centre. This is part of a wider strategic goal for OTR to be making sure our work is accessible to young people living in Twerton and Whiteway, and we’re keen to explore other opportunities that can help us to do that.
If you’d like some support on Thursdays, please complete a referral form on our website here Listening Services — Off The Record BaNES (offtherecord-banes.co.uk).

Bath Community Kitchen

Bath Community Kitchen believe that cooking and sharing food is one of the most powerful therapeutic and educational tools to improve mental and physical wellbeing.

Our weekly communal meals in Twerton include a popular Wednesday lunch club with Timebank Plus and a free, 3-course dinner every Thursday at the Lighthouse Centre. With Youth Connect South West, we’re also running a 12-week chef training course for young people interested in  hospitality.

Our vision is for more people in Bath to have opportunities to cook and eat together, to have access to delicious, healthy and affordable food, and be equipped with the skills to cook well for themselves, creating lasting change in our community.
